The worn arm from a pair of copper-alloy tweezers of early Early-Medieval date.
Description: The arm element narrows towards one end where it curves slightly towards one end which likely relates to the curving loop at the top of the tweezers attaching it to the other arm. The tweezer arm is decorated with a raised central ridge with pellets along each side. The pellets are not regularly spaced. The breaks are relatively unworn but still patinated so likely occurred during deposition but not recently.
Measurements: 31.24mm long, 6.31mm wide, 2.48mm thick and 1.78g in weight.
Discussion: Dating tweezer fragments can be difficult as many fall into ubiquitous types. This example is not of the common splayed examples typical of the Early-Medieval period. That being said the decoration would suggest an Early-Medieval date and is parallel or similar to that on NMS-165C49 and YORYM-FD4B27. An Early-Medieval date is therefore suggested.
