A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy knife terminal or end-cap from a scale-tang knife (c. 1500-c. 1600).
The cap is almost symmetrical, sub-oval in cross-section at the base and pointed oval at the top. At the base a slot for the missing tang measures 10.5mm in length, 2.4mm in depth and 1.4mm in width. This cap is in the form of two opposing human heads facing outwards. The heads are slightly different, both heads have similar facial features but one is slightly taller and has a 'crest' at the rear of the head.
The object has a coarse surface and is reddish brown with traces of a dark green patina in the crevices between the heads and under the chins.
It has been suggested by the finder that the heads are representative of a king and queen.
