A complete, silver, post medieval, 18th century button, AD.1750-1800. The object is a complete 18th century circular button with a rose design on the upper surface. The rose is a single rose with sepals in the rounded petal angles. The reverse of the button has a raised circular central area from the top of which emerges the copper alloy loop. The loop is formed of a single piece of copper alloy wire that has been bent round to form the loop. The other end is within the button suggesting that the button has a copper alloy core that the loop is integrally cast to. A similar, though octagonal example can be foun in Bailey 2004 Fig.9.73 dated to the 18th century.
