A Medieval iron key, probably dating 13th - 14th century. This is a London Type IV key, with a kidney / heart-shaped pointed bow, a solid stem tapering towards the end, and a S-shaped web with notched fore-edge (five teeth on outer edge of web). Similar keys are illustrated in London Museum Medieval Catalogue 1940, PL. XXX, No33, with a suggested date of 13th - 14th century.
