Copper-alloy fragment from the attachment end of an early medieval strap end (c. 750 - 900 AD). The fragment is from the very top of the upper forked sheet of the strap end and has two circular rivet holes positioned beside each other. A groove bisects the front surface of the fragment and runs down between the two rivet holes, forking around to the outer edges of the fragment. This probably represents the remnant of the trilobite palmette motif common on early medieval strap ends of Thomas Class A, type 1. The back surface is undecorated. The fragment has a patchy dark brown patina and its edges are worn and chipped. Its dimensions are: 10.41mm in length, 8.77mm in width and 1.68mm in thickness. The weight of the fragment is 0.51g.
