Lead musket balls. Eleven cast lead shot (a-k), some with mould lines and some with flattened patches. This group does not appear to include shot which have been fired, so some distortion may arise from balls being crushed against each other in barrelled storage. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800. These form part of a large assemblage whose recorded constituents to date may suggest a weight of about an ounce was favoured for shot. Research on the English Civil War by Glenn Foard has suggested a heavier ball was used with the musket, but evidence recorded by this reporter both for this site and elsewhere has consistently suggested the size and mass of these examples to be typical.
