Gold coin. A half noble of Edward III (1327-1377), as kindly suggested by the finder; of the fourth coinage, probably pre-Treaty period of 1351-1361. Lightly clipped with partial loss of legend [with which this reporter has consequently struggled!].
Obverse description: Facing armed king in rigged cog, sail right, legend starts at 2 O'clock.
Obverse inscription: [E]DWARxDE[--]GLIxFRANC D
Reverse description: Cross fleury with pellet-lined arms with a lis at the end of each, and with a trefoil and crowned leopard in each angle, all within a tressure of eight arches with an inner order of juxtaposed pellets; the tressure itself has a trefoil or lis on the outer side of each cusp and is confined by a granulated border with a legend beyond it. The initial cross appears to be of cross pattee form but with an indented base.
Reverse inscription: +DOMINE [---]IV[--]xORE
