Unique ID: SF-003DF6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle of Meols type 12 dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. The plate and pin are missing in old damage, though otherwise the object survives intact. The frame is broadly sub-oval in plan, with rounded sides, an offset strap bar, and a constricted midsection to the front edge of the frame flanked by two prominent sub-circular knops and still retaining its wound sheet roller. Preserved in good condition with an even condition, it measures 22.01mm long, 17.96mm wide, and 3.29mm thick at the midpoint of the frame sides. It weighs 3.62g.

For an identical illustrated parallel to this buckle, see Egan (2007) p. 84, no. 12.
