A complete copper-alloy strap slide of probable Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1500 - 1700. The object is circular in plan with a D-shaped section. A small depression is present to the centre of the reverse and is flanked by an integral attachment loop. The front of the fitting is decorated with a moulded design featuring a central raised boss within a raised circumferential border. This border is surrounded by nine raised sub-ovate panels. The resulting effect if similar to an open flower or sun.
The metal ha a mid-brown/green patina and is worn. The strap slide is 20.6mm in diameter, 3.9mm thick (13mm with loop) and weighs 6.9g.
No direct parallel for this object could be found at the time of recording though it shares similar features with a number of mounts illustrated in Egan & Pritchard (2002), p.194. A similar date is therefore suggested for the present example.
