The potential ingot consists of a slightly irregular bar of copper alloy with an oval cross-section, both ends are abraded, but the object appears complete. There are no markings on the surface which has a dark brown patina, where this has been lost it reveals a bright green core.
Dimensions: length 56.1mm; width 11.1mm; thickness 8.5mm; weight 24.02g.
Whilst similar objects have been identified as Early Medieval based on comparison to Anglo-Scandinavian silver ingots (e.g. LANCUM-9CB512), the object is largely undiagnostic and the patina of the metal is far more reminiscent of Prehistoric material, particularly Bronze Age metal work.2017-09-06 14:48:402017-09-06 14:58:37411Certain111316PAS59AFFCB8001CA974SOMCopper alloy10627CompleteBRONZE AGEBAx13712p0gjgrs6qb2IRON AGEIAx13992p0gjgrst8ftMetal detectorCircaCirca86362310578105741057541427Restricted AccessST2932ST23SENorth Petherton CP6100628762SOMFFCB8C.JPG1639562Probable Prehistoric copper alloy metal workign debrisSomerset County Council4images/wpartridge/South WestGrassland, HeathlandEuropean RegionCountySomersetDistrictSedgemoorCivil Parish51.0828-2.99181Restricted AccessReturned to finder97597
