Copper alloy dupondius, apparently with silver-plating, of Nero (AD 54-68), dating to c. AD 64 (Reece Period 3), SECVRITAS AVGVSTI S C, with II in exergue. Mint of Lugdunum. RIC I, p. 173, cf. no. 376.
Notes:
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface metal indicated a silver content of approximately 90%, the rest being mostly copper, with traces of other elements also present, suggesting that the coin was probably not made relatively recently.
