An incomplete gold medieval finger ring, missing a probable gem setting from its rectangular bezel. The hoop is squashed.
A side view of the bezel is of two mirrored trapezoids on four sides, which have been placed together at an angle to create a space between for the missing setting. The length of the bezel is 9.5cm. The width of the bezel (measured from where it meets with the hoop), is 8.5cm.
The shape of the hoop had been partially deformed creating an irregular crescent shape. The hoop measures 23.4 cm across, with the distance between the top of the bezel and the longer point of the hoop being 22.1 cm. The distance between the bezel and the shorter point of the hoop is 15.2cm. The hoop is circular in cross-section, thickening slightly at either end just before the bezel. Both ends terminate in a flat triangle-shape, the faces of these adjoining the lower faces of the bezel at this point. The ring weighs 3.47g.
Comparable finger rings date to the medieval period, c. 1200 - 1400. Cf. NMS-93A6EF and ESS-FBAFF7.
