A fragment of a Medieval to post-Medieval copper-alloy purse bar (c. 1450-c. 1550). Ward Perkins Type B3 (Ward Perkins 1940: 167-168, fig. 52, plate XXXVII).
This fragment is part of one arm which has a globular wrythen terminal. The arm is oval in cross-section and the terminal has six grooves which spiral slightly.
The object is green and corroded with patches of a dark green patina. The grooves have traces of lacquer or decayed niello.
Length: 40.0mm; width of terminal: 11.5mm; thickness of terminal: 10.4mm; width of arm: 4.6mm; thickness of arm: 3.8mm. Weight: 8.31g.
