Sheet metal copper-alloy reactangular mount with decorative black letter, dating ot he period c.AD 1350-1450.
Description: The mount is rectangular with incised and stamped decoration with one corner cut at an angle. There is a rivet hole at each end of the mount. The incised lines create the outline of a black letter P. A small triangular tool or chisel was used to creating a zig-zag affect with in the uprights creating the P. The mount is lightly worn and warped. It is patinated dark green.
Measurements: 27.79mm long, 11.42mm wide, 0.86mm thick and 0.94g in weight.
Discussion: An almost identical mount, also with Black Letter and a corner cut out is illustrated by Egan and Pritchard (1991, 122-123).
