Slate pencil. A round section rod with chatter marks along a flattened facet, probably machined but worn smooth elsewhere; broken at both ends. This would be a typical item of schoolroom equipment from the later 19th century into the early 20th. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1875-1925.
