The silver frame is of quatrilobe form, with rounded mouldings in the angles between the lobes. The external frame width is 19.2mm; frame height 19.3mm; frame thickness 3mm. The pin is plain, with an off-centre suggestion of a division at junction of head and shaft. The front of the pin has slight bevelling; the back is flat. Notes:

In terms of size and form, the brooch is of 13th- or early 14th-century date.

Similar medieval brooches of this small type include one from Langford, Nottinghamshire ('late thirteenth or fourteenth century'; TAR 2004, no. 157 and Slapton, Buckinghamshire ('fourteenth century'; TAR 2004, no. 160). A trilobate brooch frame with mouldings very similar to the Vale of Grwyney find from Bolton, East Yorkshire, has been dated to the 14th century (TAR 2008. No. 310).
