Object type certainty: Certain

Post Medieval cast lead bifacial token of Powell Type 9, probably dating to c. AD 1250-1850. The token is sub-circular in plan and flat in cross section. Both faces are cast in relief with a seperate irregular pattern of lines, with neither being particularly intelligible. One face features a large sub-rectangle border with a random assortment of diverging and converging lines breaking its border. The second face is less clear, it may potentially depict a central, serifed W surrounded by extraneous detail although it could equally be an attempt at a grid or net-like device with a central feature.

Dimensions: Diameter 20.4mm; thickness 2.4mm; weight 3.41g.

Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date.

Class: Powell Type 9
