A fragment of uncertain copper-alloy openwork object of uncertain date.
Description: The fragment survives as a sheet of curved openwork copper-alloy, possibly from an object semi-circular in shape. The 'inner' edge is very slightly thicker than the outer edge. The openwork areas are irregularly shaped/dog legged. There are two small circular holes which might be attachment or rivet points to secure the object to another piece. Part of one side is folded down onto itself and the edges are jagged breaks.
Description: 44.14mm long, 20.4mm wide, 8.44mm thick (due to parts of it folded over, 2.09mm without) and 5.82g in weight.
Discussion: The original object this fragment is from is uncertain. Similar openwork framgent often seem to relate metalwork relating to 11th century horse fitting or scabbar and belt fittins from the 10th to the 12th century.
