Roman copper-alloy Trumpet brooch c. 75 - 175 AD, in good condition with a smooth, green-brown patina. The brooch retains a swivelling wire chain loop at the head of brooch, which has been bent, connecting to a spring mechanism at the back of the head. The catchplate is also at the back of the brooch, with only the pin missing. At the centre of the bow is a good example of the fully developed acanthus decoration typical of these brooches, extending all the way around the bow. The bow terminates in a round, flat-headed ridged knob with the rivet that was used to attach it still visible on the bottom. A further decorative aspect is the groove around the flared 'trumpet' head of the brooch.
The brooch is relatively small, being 56.66mm in maximum length, 14.36mm in maximum width and 13.39mm in thickness. The weight of the brooch is 11.76g.
Very similar to Hattatt 80, p. 107.
