A post medieval cast copper alloy Antwerp hand type 5 gram square coin weight. Square in plan 15 mm x 15.5 mm with slightly bevelled sides and 2.95 mm thick. The obverse has a crowned figure holding a broadsword and an orb. The reverse has an Antwerp hand at top centre with the numerals 8 and 1 either side, this will be the date 1581. Below are the initials of the maker N D M Nicolas du Mont. Used to weigh the Low Countries Carolus gulden coin that was in use from 1543 to 1680.
