Roman copper alloy Hod Hill bow brooch, Length: 42 mm, width: 7 mm, weight: 5.64 grams,.

The brooch is missing its upper bow and pin and consists of a semi-circular cross sectioned bow with a slightly stepped foot which houses a large catchplate on its flat reverse edge. The bow is plain until about half way up its complete length where it widens slightly then narrows into a recessed horizontal collar. Above this the bow is wider with a rectangular cross section and has a raised lip at its base. Above this the surface has been divided into two reccessed rectangular 'cells' and has snapped off just above this.

The brooch is similar to fig.179, e.g. 49 in Hattatt, R. A catalogue of ancient brooches'
