Silver gilt decorative ring with two transverse flutes on the bezel, each engraved with a repeating pattern of alternating flowers filling triangular panels. The bezel is separated from the hoop by a deep transverse mouldings of each side. Below these mouldings, the hoop has a median ridge on each side, each facet with engraved sprig-like decoration. The inside of the oval hoop is plain.
Internal hoop diameter 19.3mm x 21.3mm; bezel width 8.7mm; band thickness at base 1.4mm; weight 5.16g.
The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation.
Notes:
The form of the ring is late medieval, and the decoration similar to that of some late fifteenth-century gold decorative rings, including iconographic rings (e.g. Taylor and Scarisbrick 1978, nos 426, 427). A similar flower motif occurs on a late medieval silver gilt decorative ring in the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A 6769-1860; Oman 1930, no. 269).
