Treasure Case : 2017 T704.
Description:
A complete gold finger ring of uncertain date. The finger ring is circular in plan with a narrow D-shaped section. A join mark is evident on the hoop and both the interior and exterior surfaces are uninscribed and undecorated. No makers mark is present.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 19.1mm; Width: 4mm; Thickness: 0.9mm; Weight: 2.6g.
Discussion:
Due to a lack of diagnostic detail this object is not securely datable to AD 1715 or earlier, though it is probably 17th or 18th century.
Conclusion:
Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find, it cannot be securely dated as being over 300 years old. As such, it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
