A Roman coarseware bodysherd from a Black Burnished Ware (BB1) vessel dating to AD 43-400. The sherd is roughly triangular in shape and slightly convex on the outer surface. The outer surface is black and has been burnished. There is also evidence of the typical lattice work design incised on the outer surface, the lattice is fairly even in both directions suggesting a mid Roman period for the vessel. The inner surface has not been burnished. The fabric is unoxidised and is dark greyish/black. The sherd is handmade. There is evidence of numerous small micaceous inclusions. The sherd weighs 7.65g and measures 35.88mm in length, 26.72mm in width and 6.92mm in thickness.
