A copper alloy mount of post-medieval date. The mount consists of a triangular central plate which expands outwards at one end to form a rounded knopped terminal. The opposite terminal flares outwards forming into a pelta shaped (crescentic) terminal. Where the pelta shaped terminal and the triangular central panel meet is a transverse groove. Above the rounded terminal is a transverse ridge while below is a transverse groove from which the object terminates with a rounded knop.
To the rear of the brooch three integral lugs project from the cresentic or pelta shaped terminal, one in the centre and one at each angle. The central lug is incomplete. A fourth lug sits in the centre of the brooch at the wide end of the triangular panel while a fifth lug projects from the rounded terminal knop. The rear of the mount is concave within each panel. Held beneath the lugs within the concave depression of the pelta shaped terminal is a fragment of leather. The leather is irregular in form, broken on all sides and is not fixed to the object.
Dimensions: 62mm in length, 35mm in width, 6mm thick, 21.1g
The object has a reddish-brown patina and is in good condition. An example of a similar mount recorded on the PAS database is ESS-00C8D4.
