An incomplete silver medieval penny of Stephen (AD 1135 - 1154), dating to the period AD 1135-1150. The obverse has a crowned bust right with rosette in front and no scpetre. The reverse has a cross with a mullet in each angle. This is a very rare coin, probably from a local or irregular issue, typical of the Southern variants from Oxford by the moneyer, Adam. The coin is in poor condition, struck off centre with most of the rim now missing. North 887 (Br.1c, M.181-2).
