An almost complete post-medieval lead toy pistol c. 1600-1800 AD. The firing mechanism, although corroded with rust, is largely intact missing the top most firing section. The pistol is cast in two halves, the butt is decorated with a cast cross hatch overlaid centrally by a raised oval form, surmounted at each end by a loose fleur-de-lis and diamond shape. The lock plates are also decorated with a series of raised dots to the circumference. The trigger and flash pan also remain but the barrel is missing from just forward of the flash pan.

There is a dull grey patina to the cast portions with rust to the trigger mechanism.

This style of pistol resembles that of toy cavalry pistols reported from London, where a 17th-century date is suggested (Forsyth and Egan 2005, page 97, no. 1.39). Several similar toy pistols and petronels have been recorded on the PAS database, including: NMS-657775; KENT-761751 and SUSS-41C181, LANCUM-13E217, LANCUM-6473D6 & WMID-BCFD74.
