An incomplete copper-alloy Hod Hill type Roman brooch dating to c. AD 43 - 100. The brooch is T-shaped in plan and D-shaped in profile. The head and wings have been formed by the metal being rolled back upon itself, holding in place the axis bar; it is unclear whether the axis bar still remains due to corrosion. A small protrusion on the underside of the head is all that remains of the hinged pin. The bow tapers to a broken foot; the catchplate has also been lost. Four raised collars on the back of the bow expand wider than the brooch; this is the only visible decoration on the front of the brooch and there is no visible decoration on the reverse. The brooch is dark brown in colour with a dark green surface patina on the reverse.
A similar example has not been found on this database but can be found in Hattatt (2000; p. 321; 63) and Mackreth (2011; p. 100; 9448).
The brooch measures 23.62mm in length, 15.05mm in width at the wings, 1.26mm thick just below the head and weighs 2.67grams.
