Unique ID: SF-EFC77E

Object type certainty: Certain

An uninscribed silver Iron Age unit of the North Thames region / Trinovantes, dating to the period c.60-20 BC, 'Duck Helmet' type. Obverse: Helmeted bust left, 'duckbill' and zoomorphic motif in front. Reverse: Annulate horse left with large ears, corn ear between legs flanked by annulet motifs, second corn ear above flanked by triskele, annulet, annulet-in-ring and uncertain zoomorphic motif to right. As ABC, p. 121, no. 2380.

Rudd lists the attribution of this coin to the Trinovantes as 'uncertain' and indeed it may be the case that this coin is related to other silver unit types struck in the East Anglian region. Similarities can be seen with the reverses of Rudd's 'Icklingham Corn Ear' (ABC no. 1507) and 'Gas Mask' (ABC no. 1510) types.

Other coins of this type recorded on the PAS database are published as records IOW-65CC86 and NMS-E6BAA4.
