A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy spur rowel (c. 1500-c. 1700).
The rowel is in the form of a five-pointed star with raised decorative points in the interstices of the star which lead from the centre of the rowel and terminate in a point just proud of the interstice. The decoration is the same on both sides of the rowel. In the centre is a circular perforation, 3.3 mm in diameter.
Length: 28.3mm; width: 27.2mm; thickness: 2.0mm. Weight: 2.97g.
Read (2001) illustrates a similar rowel with defined interstices on page 66, fig. 42, ref: 508.
Bailey (2002) illustrates a spur rowel with similar alternating moulded points on page 36, fig.17, which is dated from the 17th century.
