Iron and copper alloy unidentified object. A wrought iron shank of round section, tapered towards each of its [surviving] ends, and with seven apparently D-section bands of copper alloy of width c.3.5mm slipped over its middle part. Some sharp spurs project from under these, and may represent an outer layer which is otherwise lost. One of the ends appears bent or angled. This may have served as a grip for a tool or implement, though a gas supply fitting might share most of these characteristics. The mass indicates good survival of the metal core, and hence, probably, a relatively recent date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1900.
