Object type certainty: Certain

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface displays faint ripples of percussion radiating from the bulb and striking platform. A bulbar scar is also present. The dorsal surface is irregular, displaying two large previous flake removals. Long, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch is present on the distal edge.

The flint is a light yellow/grey colour with lighter and black inclusions. The implement is 33.9mm long, 33.9mm wide, 7.9mm thick and weighs 9.6g.

Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other artefact types. They had many different functions as they were very useful tools and were employed, for example, for skinning animals, removing the fatty deposit from hinds and much more.
