A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface displays radiating ripples of percussion though the bulb and striking platform no longer remains. The dorsal surface is irregular, displaying two long previous flake removals. Irregular short, parallel, abrupt retouch is present on the left distal edge.
The flint is a dark grey colour with lighter and black inclusions. The implement is 47.3mm long, 28.7mm wide, 7.9mm thick and weighs 11.5g.
Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other artefact types. They had many different functions as they were very useful tools and were employed, for example, for skinning animals, removing the fatty deposit from hinds and much more.
