An incomplete copper alloy post medieval seal matrix with multiple dies dating to the period c. AD c.1600 - c. 1700. The object is missing one of its terminals.
The seal matrix is in the form of a cross pattee with a circular perforated aperture from which the four arms of the cross extend.
The arms are oval in cross section and each terminates in a flared oval die each of which features a shallowly engraved design within an oval border. The designs are not discernible. All of the dies had been slightly bent and are different in size. The first terminal is 11.5mm long and 8.5mm wide. The second is 12.5mm long and 9.7 wide. The third 13.2mm long and 10.5mm wide. According to (Read 1988, 152; 1030, 1031) such multi die matrices tend to be more common with the 17th century. The arms which are connected to the dies have a length of c. 8.6 mm.
