An incomplete distorted and heavily worn gilt copper-alloy rowel spur of Post-Medieval date c.AD 1600-1700.

Description: The spur comprises a a curved band, expanded at its centre, from which a an oval cross-sectioned projection extends at a right angle. One side of the rowel arm has a 'D' section form with a collard end terminating in a central pivot hole, with the remnants of an iron pin. Both the sides (arms) of the band are broken and the rowel is missing. This spur has been twisted, likely in antiquity, so that the arm is parallel to the curved band. The spur is unusual in that it is gilded, but this is largely obscured by the dark green patina. It is likely Post-Medieval, however, due to heavy wear it is impossible to say for certain which period it is from.

Dimensions: Length 44.84mm, width (at curved band) 21.11mm, width (at end of rowel arm) 8.14mm, thickness (at curved band) 10.27mm, thickness (at end of rowel arm) 3.52mm and weight 19.93g.
