A Post Medieval copper alloy double-looped buckle, probably dating to the 16th century. The buckle has two oval loops with a central bar flanked by knops. The buckle frame is D-shaped in cross section and with the outer edge of each frame expanded and moulded into a rossette.
Dimentions: length 42.0mm; width 30.5mm; thickness 3.2mm; it weighs 9.12g.
Such buckles tend to be attributed a later 16th-century date (Egan 2005, 35; ref. 88, found in a 17th century context but assumed to be residual), although the type must pre-date 1545 as it was found on the Mary Rose (Gardiner ed. 2005, 104; ref. 82A5069). Numerous comparible examples can be seen recorded on this database, as well as published by Margeson (1993: 31, no. 174).
