An incomplete Iron Age or Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester two-piece type, dating to c AD25 - 80. Only the head, with wings and spring mechanism in place, and a short section of bow remain. The wings are C shape in section and support a spring of eleven coils on top. The pin would have emanated from a twelfth. The bow is B shape in section with the upper surface bifurcated, with an indentation down the centre of the bar, and slightly concave either side.The bar is 8.15mm in width where it leaves the head, tapering rapidly to 5.08mm in width only 15.20mm below the head.
It is 20.03mm in length, 26.49m in width and weighs 7.16g.
