An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. Only one half of the plate survives, with its other half and the buckle it originally connected to both missing in old damage. It is broadly rectangular in plan, with a single circular rivet hole present at each corner and another at the centre of the plate (giving a total of five). Projecting from the front of the plate are two 'tabs' which originally flanked the cut-out section that accomodated the buckle pin, though only the stubs of these remain. The outer surface of the buckle plate demonstrates heavy traces of gilding, though is otherwise undecorated. Preserved in fair condition, it measures 26.59mm long, 15.40mm wide at its midpoint, and 1.25mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 2.94g.
For parallels see Egan and Pritchard (1991) pp. 110-111, nos. 499 and 502. See also HAMP-60A56E on the PAS database.
