An incomplete copper alloy Medieval to Post-Medieval double looped buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1350-1650. The surviving frame comprises of a single oval loop, with the second lost to worn breaks. The frame is D-shaped in cross section with a narrowed central bar, flanked by knops. The bar is similarly D-shaped in cross secion. A copper alloy sheet pin survives wrapped around the bar. Areas of black may suggest traces of a linseed oil coating.
Dimensions: length 19.9mm; width 21.4mm; thickness 2.7mm; weight 2.69g.
The lack of any decoration makes it difficult to suggest anything more than a very general date range, a number of double looped buckles are published by Whitehead (2003), which he dates to AD 1350-1650.
