A sherd from the base of an early medieval (EMW) or medieval coarseware (MCW) vessel. The sherd is too small to determine the form of the base. The fabric is hard and coarse and is tempered with plentiful quartz sand (<1mm) and small amounts of mica. Both the core and surfaces are a light grey colour.
