An early-medieval silver sceat of Series X (type 31), dating to AD 710-760 (or later). Probably minted at Ribe (Denmark) as opposed to an English imitation although the reverse beast lacks the usually seen drooping crest behind the head. Ref: Metcalf 1993: 279-80.
Reference: Abramson X120 (obverse), to the reverse the tail is not forked, has a single pellet below the head and a single pellet before it.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.

Obverse description: Facing, radiate, Wodan head with chevron beard, cross pommee either side, pellet above. All within line border with vestigial beaded border beyond.

Reverse description: Monster in flight left, looking back, gaping jaws biting raised tail, pellet beneath head/jaws and pellet in front of body. Prominent member and triple-clawed feet below. Line border with beaded border beyond.
