An incomplete cast copper-alloy and iron probable vessel mount dating to the Roman period, c. 43-410 AD. The mount is zoomorphic, taking the form of a swimming duck or similar waterbird, its wings tucked inwards and neck erect- with circular pits denoting the eyes and a transverse groove the beak. On the underside of the mount at its midpoint is a lump of projecting iron corrosion product, probably representing the remains of an iron shaft or spigot that would have attached the mount to the vessel itself. Preserved in fair condition with an even green patina, it stands 10.75mm high at the midpoint of its body, 21.83mm high at the head and neck, 39.95mm long, and 12.86mm wide at the midpoint of the body. It weighs 14.11g.
