A silver post-medieval fourpence of Charles II, dating to the period AD 1660-1685. The second part of the date has been obliterated. Crowned four interlinked C's reverse. This coin has been pierced at four o'clock on the obverse. The piercing was made from the obverse through to the reverse. Cf Coins of England and the United Kingdom, Spink, Spink & Son, London, 2009, number 3384.
Notes:
Pierced post-medieval silver coins are fairly common finds which are known from hoards, they thus do not appear to have been removed from circulation and continued to function as a coin. It was therefore not submitted for consideration as Treasure as it does not fit the definition given in the Treasure Act 1996.
