An incomplete copper alloy probable cosmetic implement of Roman date. The object is slightly curved in profile. It has an oval sectioned flattened handle with a hammered expanded terminal. The opposite end of the object expands in width and flattens terminating with a point with one tapered side. This end is sub-triangular in plan. The object is notched along the edge giving it a 'knife-like' appearance. It is unclear whether this notching is deliberate or due to wear and damage.
Dimensions: 75mm in length, 6mm in width, 2mm thick, 2.9g.
The exact function of this object is uncertain however it is likely that it could have been used as a cosmetic implement such as one half of a tweezers or a nail cleaner. The object has a dark brown patina and is in fair condition. Examples of various types of cosmetic implements can be found in Crummy N, (1983).
