A complete, milled, sixpence of Elizabeth I AD.1558-1603, that has been pierced at the top of the obverse and shows signs of having been gilded. The coins is dated 1562, on the reverse. Star initial mark, bust C. North 1977 no.2026

Obverse, bust of queen left with rose behind head. ELIZABETH D G ANG FRA ET HIB REGINA

Reverse, square top shield with long cross fourchee. POSVI/ DEVM AD/IVTORE/M MEVM

The coin has been pierced above the bust, respecting the obverse layout and in addition seems to have been lightly gilded. This suggests that the coin was removed from circulation for use as a pendant.

This would make the coin Treasure under the terms of the Act 1996, as the object is over 300 years old, more than 10% precious metal.

Notes:

This find has been disclaimed as Treasure under the Act 1996.
