A complete lead or lead alloy steelyard weight, of probable Roman dating (1st to 2nd Century AD) but could be of later dating (2nd Century to 19th Century AD).
The weight is biconical in shape. A vertical suspension hole is present in the centre of the weight. A circular recess is present at the centre of the base.
It measures 31.8 mm tall, with a maximum diameter of 46.9 mm. It weighs 334.9g (11.81 oz).
The weight is a light grey to off white colour, with an even surface patina.
Biconical weights are a functional artefact, as such, there is little typological change over time. It is probable that this weight is of Roman dating but it may of later dating.
