An incomplete copper-alloy disc brooch of Roman date, c.AD 100 - 200. The brooch is circular and is decorated with an outer border of raised chevrons with two raised inner rings with traces of red enamel between the rings six-pointed star around a large central ring. The brooch appears to be stained by the remains of gilding. The diameter is 33mm and the weight 9.27g.
The worn remains of an integral lug and hinge project from opposite points on the reverse of the brooch. The pin no longer remains.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn.
Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.345, fig.515 and date to the 2nd century AD.
