Flake 1: A tertiary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped with a triangular cross section. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars and the ventral face shows a prominent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a hard hammer. The flake opaque and is now entirely covered in a smooth off-white re-cortification with a mid-gloss patina and areas of reddish brown ferrous staining mainly on ridges.
Dimensions: 72.7mm x 35.7mm x 16.3mm.
Weight: 37.3g
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC.
Flake 2: A secondary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped with a trapezoidal cross section. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars, the low bulb of percussion to the concave ventral face indicates probable use of a soft hammer. The flake opaque and is now covered in a smooth, speckled, off-white re-cortification with a mid gloss patina and areas of cortex at the distal and proximal ends of the dorsal face.
Dimensions: 56.8mm x 23.5mm x 13.7mm.
Weight: 17.8g.
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC.
Flake 3: A tertiary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped with a trapezoidal cross section. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars, the low bulb of percussion to the concave ventral face indicates probable use of a soft hammer. The flake is opaque and is now covered in a smooth, speckled, off-white re-cortification except an area at the distal end where a modern break has revealed the original mid grey colour of the flint.
Dimensions: 55.5mm x 27mm x 11.7mm.
Weight: 18.6g.
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC.
Flake 4: A tertiary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is sub-oval in shape. The dorsal face shows broad flake removal scars and the prominent bulb of percussion and bulbar scar to the ventral face indicates probable use of a hard hammer. The flake is semi-opaque and mid-light grey with mottles and a mid gloss patina.
Dimensions: 59.2mm x 43.2mm x 13.6mm.
Weight: 36.1g.
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC
Flake 5: A tertiary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped with a trapezoidal cross section. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars, the ventral face shows a prominent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a hard hammer. The flint is semi-opaque and light beige in colour and is now partially covered in a thin white speckled re-cortification with a mid gloss patina and areas of reddish brown ferrous staining mainly on ridges.
Dimensions: 47.2mm x 22.5mm x 5.5mm.
Weight: 6.3g
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC.
Flake 6: A secondary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars with cortex remaining on 50% of the surface, there is a minimal amout of short, scaled semi-abrupt retouch along the left side margin. The prominent bulb of percussion to the ventral face indicates probable use of a hard hammer. The flake is now entirely covered in a smooth off-white re-cortification with a mid gloss patina and areas of reddish brown ferrous staining mainly on ridges.
Dimensions: 39.3mm x 18mm x 5.4mm.
Weight: 4.35g
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC
Flake 7: A secondary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is lozenge shaped. The dorsal face shows linear, parallel blade removal scars with cortex remaining on 60% of the surface, there is a minimal amount of short, sub-parallel abrupt retouch along the right side distal end margin. The prominent bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples to the ventral face indicate probable use of a hard hammer. The flint is semi translucent and mid brown in colour with a high gloss patina.
Dimensions: 38.1mm x 19.6mm x 6.8mm.
Weight: 5.06g
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC
Flake 8: A tertiary flint flake classed as debitage (a waste product produced during lithic reduction). The flake is irregular in shape. The dorsal face shows multiple covering removal scars. The prominent bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples to the ventral face indicate probable use of a hard hammer. The flint is mid brown in colour and is now partially covered in a thin, blue-white, speckled re-cortification with a high gloss.
Dimensions: 32.5mm x 17.7mm x 3.9mm.
Weight: 2.3g
Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 3300 to 1600 BC
