A cast copper-alloy medieval spherical sword pommel, dating to the period AD 1100-1400. The pommel is spherical, with two broadly square openings, the smaller on top measuring 7.45mm width and length, and the larger at the base measuring 11.14mm in length and 9.34mm in width. The top of the handle/tang would have fitted through these openings. It is 17.74mm in height, 24.38mm wide and weighs 13.36g. The pommel has a rough patina, and is mostly dark brown in colour, with patches of light green. In the "London Museum Medieval Catalogue", Ward Perkins (1940: pp. 21-38) has introduced a classification for sword pommels. Following this system, the pommel described in this record is a spherical pommel (Type VI), which Ward Perkins states are in use in the 12th century and survive into the 14th century.
