A silver post medieval six pence of William III (1694-1702) dating to 1696. Early harp type. The coin is very worn, and is pierced at the top of the bust. The coin is a silver colour, with black corrosion. Spink 2013 page 369, number 3520.
Notes:
The coin is neatly pierced and aligned to the bust, so is a possible case for Treasure. John Naylor, Pers Comm, 15/06/17.
Few pierced machine-struck coins have been seen so it is harder to say that there is a reasonable chance that such a coin could re-enter currency and this along with the clear orientation of the piercing suggests a possible case for Treasure. Barrie Cook, Pers Comm, 27/06/17
It is possible then that coin does meet the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996, as the coin contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and may have been modified into a different object.
